Design for All Learners
Brief
I led this 45-minute interactive session that was selected for inclusion in the 2024 Atlanta Conference and Expo of the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association for Talent Development.
Learning Solution
The session description for the conference guide was: In digital learning, accessibility isn’t just a nice-to-have—it's essential. This session will break down the key steps to make e-learning, videos, and other digital content inclusive of learners with diverse abilities and needs. From writing effective alt text for images to incorporating closed captions in videos, you’ll discover practical strategies and actionable tips to enhance usability for all learners. By the end of this session, you’ll be able to advocate for accessibility in your organization and ensure that your digital learning materials are open to all.
After an introduction on the ethical imperative for accessible learning and the benefits of accessibility to all learners, I presented three learner personas with different accessibility needs. I assigned each persona to a group of participants and had them examine different potential accessibility issues in digital learning materials through the lens of these personas. Participants left with a list of resources for further learning as well as recommended accessibility champions for follow on LinkedIn.
